About Mark Merrick

Experience
In previous lives I have been a database administrator, teacher, software developer, software development manger, director of project management (www.ceira.com), and webmaster (www.vanguard.edu). Formally, I have been working with technology, and particularly the internet, for thirteen years. Fascinated by the blinking lights, I started writing code on a Commodore 64 when I was ten years old.
These days creative and management pursuits consume much my time. Though I hold this title humbly, I am a visionary. I love building ideas creatively and bringing together solutions. The web is deep canvas with a multitude of colors.
Technical/Artistic Passions
I hate it when can't find something on a website, so I am fascinated by User Navigation, Usability, and Design. But people have to find your site first. Enter search engine optimization, search engine marketing, and social media integration. Also, I am never able to resist an opportunity to write some code.
Ethic
Somewhere between our work and play we find balance. Too much of either diminishes us. We need play to keep us artful and expressive. We need work to define our purpose and passions. Balance allows us to enjoy work, and enjoy working hard.
Though it may sound cliche', my word is my bond, and I enjoy turning out a good product as much as I enjoy spending my paycheck.
Hobbies
You can't run a company in the U.S. without playing a little golf, but I am also known to play baseball, basketball and tennis. My real passion though, is music. I have been playing guitar and singing for more than 25 years. Academically I enjoy dabbling in psychology, science and theology.
